Mindful Hands Massage was founded by Gudjon Bergmann in May 2024. His vision is to provide high-quality bodywork that can help people reduce the side effects of modern living, such as chronic muscle tension and pain, especially in the back, neck and shoulders. The business was mobile for the first few months but found a home in San Marcos with Hays Physical Therapy and Wellness in August 2024.
Gudjon is a licensed massage therapist (LMT) with decades of experience in yoga, meditation and stress management. He graduated from Austin Community College with honors and is licensed in Texas. Born in Iceland—that's where the name comes from—Gudjon moved with his family to Texas in 2010 and became a U.S. Citizen in 2013. His approach to massage is mindful, firm, therapeutic and relaxing.
Gudjon is proficient in Swedish techniques, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, full-body stretching, scraping and sports massage. In 2025, he plans to add a medical massage certification and attend two conferences. He also serves as a regional co-coordinator for the AMTA in Austin, where he helps to create community and increase access to continuing education.
Mindful Hands Massage is in between a spa—which focuses primarily on relaxation—and physical therapy—which focuses on therapeutic outcomes. On the spa side, you can expect dim lights, a warm table, and solfeggio frequencies. On the physical therapy side, you can expect science-based assessments and a focus on therapeutic outcomes. Gudjon Bergmann excels at releasing chronic muscle tension and pain, particularly in areas like the back, neck, and shoulders. His "less pain, more gain" approach can work deeper into the muscle tissue, providing relief and improving flexibility. During sessions, he utilizes everything from deep pressure to scraping, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and more to meet the primary goal of muscle release.
Bergmann has developed a unique clothed treatment that combines traditional massage, stretching, acupressure, shiatsu, trigger point therapy, percussion and more. It relieves tension, improves mobility, and restores the body's natural state of balance.
Gudjon takes the time to understand each client's individual needs and creates customized treatment plans. Whether you're in chronic pain, suffer limited mobility, are an athlete recovering from an injury or are simply looking to unwind, he can tailor the massage therapy session to your specific goals.
